joe, where is this post that you speak of? i really want to read it, if not discuss it with you. i've been drilling my head all school year about topics regarding "communication and expression," so fill me in on this and we will philosophize and think of an awesome, mind blowing plan together... with our powers combined (we can run this)

I agree. If we are going to shut down things because 'mis-information can occur' we are really saying that people can only speak their minds if it is what society agrees is correct.

If mis-information occurs, than its up to the evidence surrounding the situation to determine if it is a lie or not. Now if something was clearly false and they kept it up on their site, that would be a reason not to visit their site, but not a reason to bring them down (tho a law suit for the defimation of characther to the Police officer may be in order in that situation).

an example of discovery would be:

as mobile progresses - it could introduce you to people from your hometown who live near by and engage in similar tasks.

I was thinking that by indexing hometown they could use it as a way to leverage their data.

If all parts of a profile could be cross section analyzed there would be tremendous potential for discovery of "friends you never knew you had... or services you never knew you would enjoy..."

However, I doubt they could appropriately cross section the whole profile to create substantial leverage until the semantic web has advanced further along.

The hometown thing could just be as simple as cutting out classmates.com. There's several ways to go with it.

maybe they use the specific hometown for some more direct marketing schemes in the advertisements that are displayed on the pages you view...

Before the internet we had plenty of disinformation we just didn't have any sources to double check the facts.
